Gemma is a storyteller at heart. You can find her performing all over the Bay Area doing solo performances, storytelling events and improvised musicals.
STORYTELLING - As a storyteller, Gemma is the resident performer at “The Shout”, an Oakland storytelling series featuring “life’s true stories told onstage without notes or scripts”. Inspired by “The Moth”, it does for storytelling what Poetry slamming did for poetry.
Gemma tells her ongoing saga of how a muu-muu wearing “chunky little dazzler” (Dramalogue, 2009) transforms into an award-winning humanitarian and singer. Gemma looks back at her adventures and reflects on how going on a national game show, running a stripping telegram agency, stalking John Cusak and working as a rollerskating waitress led her to build an unprecedented Million Voice Choir and become a internationally recognized social entrepreneur introducing community innovations for the provision of clean water and sanitation in Asia and Africa.
